SALEM: The Prohibition Enforcement Wing personnel seized a large number of IMFL bottles, which were being smuggled from other States, in Salem.

Acting on a tip off, a team of personnel led by Assistant Commissioner K. Periyasamy raided a godown a few days ago and checked 60 boxes.

They found the liquor bottles stored in a secret chamber created in each box.

The team seized a total of 1,436 IMFL bottles, which were reportedly smuggled from Goa for sale in Tamil Nadu, the police said.

The personnel on Saturday arrested Nagaraj, to whom the boxes were sent. Based on the information obtained from him, the personnel conducted a vehicle check on Omlaur Main road and intercepted a car.

They found 60 IMFL bottles in the car, which were smuggled from Karnataka and Puducherry.

The personnel arrested four persons including the car driver. In the preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the IMFL bottles were being smuggled to Tuticorin.

Further investigation was going on, the police said.

The police had already arrested 10 persons. On Saturday, Anandkumar, a worker in a weaving unit, was arrested.

Further investigation is on.
