CHENNAI: Officials of the Dock Intelligence Unit seized toys from 45 containers which were imported in violation of specifications prescribed under Standards of Weights and Measure (Packaged Commodities) Rules 1977.

C. Rajan, Commissioner of Customs, Seaport (Imports), said a large number of containers with toys from China arrived in large number in the last couple of months. This raised a suspicion and the authorities conducted a detailed examination of the containers. It resulted in the seizure and the seized play materials were valued at Rs 5.5 crore, he said. As per specifications, name of manufacturer, place and date of manufacturing, and other related information should be printed in the box. But none of those details was printed in the toys.
