Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has announced that it would conduct the regional round of Shaastra Junior Quiz, introduced this year as part of its annual technical festival, at R.S.K. Higher Secondary School, Kailasapuram, at BHEL township on July 7. The idea is to expose std. IX to XII students to the exciting world of technology and innovation.

The preliminary regional rounds in Tamil Nadu would be conducted in Tiruchi, Coimbatore, and Salem in two parts: a written exam on science and technology and general information, followed by the quizzing round. The top three teams in the three regions would compete at the national-level quiz at IIT Madras during the celebration of Shaastra 2014 festival in January. The top three teams of all regions would be given certificates. Winners of the national round would be awarded with huge prize money as well.

With the slogan ‘breaking boundaries’, the ISO 9001:2008 certified student-managed event that features various science and technology-based competitions, symposia, lectures, videoconferences, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops would showcase innovation ranging from working with micro controllers, handling IC engines, math modelling, air shows, and coding algorithms to making robots, a press release issued by the Shaastra 2014 team’s Tamil Nadu Overreach Coordinator A. Anand Babu said.

Schools could field any number of two-member teams and registration would be conducted free of cost on the spot for the event scheduled at 1.00 p.m. Information could be obtained at : 7598459521.
