T.P. Sundaramoorthy, Inspector-General of Police on Tuesday assumed office as IG - West Zone.
Mr. Sundaramoorthy, earlier Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, was holding additional charge as IG – West Zone as the post was lying vacant.
After assuming office, Mr. Sundaramoorthy said that practices such as visible policing and effective night patrolling adopted in Coimbatore City that helped in bringing down the crime rate would be emulated in all the eight districts of West Zone i.e., the Nilgiris, Coimbatore Rural, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. Public welfare would be accorded top priority.
Resolving pending cases and extending assistance to the judiciary would also done.
With regard to accidents on highways, Mr. Sundaramoorthy said that all efforts would be taken for stepping up accident prevention awareness. Mr. Sundaramoorthy said that he would conduct surprise inspection of all the 231 police stations.
