ID cards distributed to manual workers

The Labour Department conducted a special drive here on Thursday to enrol more workers into Tamil Nadu Manual Workers Welfare Board and Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board.

Applications

As many as 2,200 applications had been received for enrolment into the respective Boards.

The Department sources said that the membership cards would be issued after the applications were verified by the respective village administrative officers of the areas from where the applicant comes from.

Inaugurating the event, the Minister for State Highways and Minor Ports, M.P. Saminathan, distributed identity cards to four manual workers and two construction workers who had applied for the same a few weeks back.

Mayor K. Selvaraj, Joint Labour Commissioner P. Marimuthu, Collector C. Samayamoorthy, Assistant Inspector of Labour V. Balakrishnan, and Deputy Inspector of Labour U. Ramaraj, were present.
