MADURAI: It is high time Indian students are exposed to education of international standards that test their ability to think and act rather than memorising, said a schoolteacher at a seminar held here on Wednesday.

With this objective in mind, the International Assessment for Indian Schools (IAIS) - 2006, a diagnostic profiling tests, is being conducted for students between standard III and XII across the country. The tests are conducted jointly by Educational Assessment Australia of the University of New South Wales, Australia, and Macmillan India limited.

Tests on four subjects, English, Science, Mathematics and Computer skill, will be conducted. Not all the four sections are compulsory as students can decide the number of subjects they want to appear. The tests are conducted through the school managements. The tests will be held on November 3 and 4.
