Udhagamandalam: Ahead of making a first hand study of the conditions at the ailing Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) near here on Tuesday, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh who arrived here on Monday along with his wife Vaishalitai Deshmukh mingled freely with the tourists at the Government Botanical Garden. They were greeted by a number of tourists.
He also took a quick round of the Raj Bhavan located above the garden.
Later speaking to The Hindu, he said that he would walk into the HPF with an “open mind”.
Stating that already a sum of Rs. 30 crores had been released as immediate relief, he said that more has been sought and all aspects would be taken into consideration before taking a decision.
Stating that the company has good potential, he said that it has to be made competitive. He recalled that he had visited this hill station along with his family members about 20 years ago. Though the town has undergone several changes, the garden still looked beautiful and the weather is good. In hill stations like Mahabaleshwar, “we need fans at this time of the year,” Mr. Deshmukh lamented.
