“Why did Karunanidhi not talk about Eelam at Island Grounds meet?”

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Sunday said she would send the Indian Army to Sri Lanka to create a separate Eelam.

“It is my firm proclamation. Tamil Eelam is the only solution to the sufferings of the Tamils. There is no change in my opinion. I will send the Indian Army to Sri Lanka just as late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi sent it to East Pakistan to create Bangladesh,” she said, campaigning for the party’s South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency S.Rajendran and Central Chennai candidate S.M.Mogamedali Jinnah. Ms. Jayalalithaa alleged Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi talked about creating a separate Eelam, because he could not stomach the world-wide appreciation she received for her support to the creation of Tamil Eelam.

Wondering why Mr.Karunanidhi failed to talk about Tamil Eelam at the meeting on the Island Grounds, she said the Chief Minister’s “meaningless speech” in the presence of AICC president Sonia Gandhi had proved that he would not do anything for the Eelam cause.

Disputing Ms. Gandhi’s claim that ceasefire had been achieved in Sri Lanka, she said even yesterday (on Saturday) more than 2000 Tamils were killed there.

“Don’t turn the knife in the wounds of the Tamils. Don’t destroy our Tamil community for the sake of elections. You supplied arms to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is determined to annihilate Tamils before the Lok Sabha polls. Your unpardonable act will remain in the memory of the Tamils, generation after generation. They will punish you,” she said.

Listing the failures of the DMK government, she said power crisis in the State had led to closure of industrial units, layoffs and job cuts.
