The annual 12-day `Thai Poosam' festival concludes in Temple City

MADURAI: The decorated float of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here was pulled around Mariamman Teppakulam on Thursday.

Hundreds of devotees thronged the tank and witnessed the event, which marks the conclusion of the annual 12-day `Thai Poosam' festival.

Idols of Lord Sundareswarar and Goddess Meenakshi, attired in silk robes, were placed on the float and drawn around the temple with the help of ropes.

The temple priests performed pujas and shortly thereafter the float, carrying the decorated images on silver and gold mounts, was drawn around the tank twice in the morning at around 10.45 a.m. and once in the evening at 8 p.m.

Youths from nearby Anuppanadi were drafted to pull the ropes of the float from the middle of the tank and outside its parapet.

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Joint Commissioner, T. Swaminathan, and temple trustees were present.
