Chennai: If making others laugh is a social service, that’s according to this retired bank official, then there is no one stopping this tribe from increasing. Whether it is to manipulate his voice to crack a joke, test your general knowledge, sing songs or to say anything to tickle your funny bone, ventriloquist G.A. Shanthakumar promises to leave you elated, at least for a few moments.
“I have always been fascinated by humour. It was at the age of 49 that I realised that I need to take my hobby more seriously,” says Mr. Shanthakumar, who retired as senior manager from Indian Bank.
Ventriloquist M.M. Roy’s show in the city paved way to pursue his passion. “He promised to train me in the art and for the next three months my first lesson was to get the metallic sound — the basic to mimic any sound for a ventriloquist,” recalls Mr. Shanthakumar.
