Hundreds of employees of the ailing Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Thursday.

Organised under the aegis of the Save HPF Committee, the demonstration was in protest against the delay in reviving the company.

Alleging that the stumbling block was Union Finance Minister P.Chidambaram many of them raised slogans against him.

Revival plans

Underscoring the need for the district administration to intervene, they said that due to the steps taken at various levels over the last 16 years, the company had been considered for revival by the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE).

After passing through the Committee of Secretaries (CoS), the proposal had been placed before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 23, 2012.

Since Mr. Chidambaram had reportedly not given his approval the proposal had been sent back to the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries.

Stating that it has placed in jeopardy the livelihood of over 700 employees, they said that the administration should ensure that the Tamil nadu government espouses the cause of the company and its workers.
