PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the Ponnamaravathy taluk unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a demonstration in front of the bus stand at Ponnamaravathy, in support of their charter of demands on Tuesday.

They demanded the issue of house-site patta and family cards to the residents of Indira Nagar near Kadayakudi. They wanted the introduction of bus service between Ponnamaravathy and Aranthangi via Lena Vilakku, Sengeerai, Rayavaram and Arimalam.

A.L. Raj, Taluk secretary of the party, who led the agitation, said that the residents of Indira Nagar were finding it difficult to obtain housing loans for want of house-site patta for the past several years.

V. Singamuthu, District secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress, said that college students would benefit much, if the bus service was introduced.
