Collector V. Sampath has exhorted hoteliers, tea shop owners and those dealing in food items to strictly conform to the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2011. Any shortfall would attract penal action.

He was speaking at a meeting organised here on Thursday for creating awareness of the need to scrupulously abide by the rules, among hoteliers and food suppliers.

Mr. Sampath also said samples of food items would be collected and sent to laboratories for test. If these were found to be of sub-standard quality, action would be taken against the persons concerned.

He called upon all dealers in food articles, including meat sellers, to get registered and obtain licence. Food Security Officers had been appointed in all panchayat unions to issue applications free of cost and keep a watch on quality.
