CHENNAI: The owner of a hotel on P.T. Rajan Salai in K.K. Nagar was arrested on Wednesday for causing the death of a person. According to the Vadapalani police, Gopalan, owner of a restaurant, engaged on Wednesday morning a labourer to go down a manhole near his hotel to clean the clogged drain.

The labourer died minutes after entering the drain, following a suspected asphyxiation.

According to the police, Gopalan should have registered a complaint with the Chennai Metrowater office.

Owner of a neighbouring florist shop Palanichamy called the Fire and Rescue services personnel around 11 a.m.

Subsequently, Corporation and fire service workers fished out the body.
