: Three more government hostels for minority girls will be constructed in the state this year. Three hostels had been constructed last year, said Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam.

He was distributing welfare assistance to minority women at a function here on Saturday. At present, nine hostels had been functioning in the state, including the new ones in Madurai, Krishnagiri and Melur. Request for construction of a hostel for minority girls in Theni district will be brought to the knowledge of the Chief Minister for further action, he added. The State Government determined to protect interests of women and chalked out plans for their uplift and economic independence. Distribution of mixies, grinders and fans was to lessen the burden of home makers, particularly in rural areas. Distribution of domestic animals was not only to enhance the income of poorest of the poor but also improve rural economy, the Minister pointed out.
