Three places have been identified for a horticulture university to be established in Krishnagiri district, says a press release from District Collector V. Arun Roy on Thursday. The government had last Friday announced in the State Assembly that a horticulture university would be established in the district.

The three places identified are: Government Horticulture Farm at Jeenur (303 acres), Nagamangalam Farm belonging to DRDA (128.29 acres), Government Cattle Farm, Mathigiri (1,714 acres) and Sericulture Farm at Kolatti (968 acres). The proposal on the places had been sent to the government for approval, the release said.

As the district had abundant cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flowers, it would become one of the developed districts in the state.

The university would improve crop pattern and develop new varieties of crops which would improve the economic status of farmers.
