All India Forward Bloc (Dinakaran faction) has urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to restore normality in the southern districts which witnessed several caste-based killings since Thevar Jayanthi.

In a statement, its State secretary S. Dinakaran said that miscreants who hurled petrol bombs on a SUV near Chintamani, and those involved in the Paramakudi killings should be booked under National Security Act. The Chief Minister should invite community leaders of Mukkulathors and Dalits to Chennai and conduct tripartite talks with them. Peace committees should be formed under the leadership of the Collector with the inclusion of government officials and representatives of Mukkulathors and Dalits to defuse the situation. The State government must shut down TASMAC liquor shops in the suburbs of Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar and Madurai district for the next three months.

The government should initiate propaganda to bring an end to caste hostility and allocate special funds towards efforts to propagate peace. Advertisements must be released in newspapers requesting members of both the castes to avoid violence and promote brotherhood.

An exclusive Superintendent of Police office must be established for intelligence department in Madurai with a separate department to prevent caste and communal violence.

Police and other officials with a bias towards particular caste should be dismissed from service.
