A paper-rolls laden lorry allegedly hijacked by a five-member gang near Uthukuli on Friday evening was found abandoned a few kilometres off Avinashi town. Though the paper load was intact, cash and few electronic items kept in the driver's cabin had been reported missing. The hijack took place near Uthukuli when the lorry was on its way to Tirupur with the paper rolls loaded from Vapi in Gujarat State.

One of the lorry drivers, Nanthakumar, stopped the vehicle after seeing a red light signal waived by a person standing on the road side.

When he alighted from the vehicle to enquire the matter, he was forcefully been dragged to a lonely place by the gang members. After tying him down with rope, the gang entered the vehicle and forcefully ejected out the reserve driver, Eswaran, from the driver's cabin after threatening him at knife point.

The Uthukuli police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
