Udhagamandalam: Two-way traffic on the landslip-hit Mettupalayam-Coonoor national highway resumed on Monday.

The section, which had been badly affected by a number of landslips which occurred during the heavy rains of November 2009 had been thrown open to one way traffic from January 15.

At a ceremony held at Kattery, the resumption of two-way traffic was signalled by A. Soundarapandian and B. Gopalan, both MLAs. Among those present was the District Revenue Officer S. Kuppuswamy.

Mr.Soundarapandian later told reporters damages had been set right within a short time because of the efforts taken by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

The resumption of two-way traffic would be of considerable benefit to the travelling public in general and tourists in particular.
