Minister for State Highways and Minor Ports M.P. Saminathan inaugurated a new high-level bridge constructed across Amaravathy river at Mayilrangam near here on Sunday.
S. Selvam, Divisional Engineer (Dharapuram), Department of Highways, said that the bridge was built at an outlay of Rs. 6.23 crore, allocated under Part-II scheme, to enhance transport facilities on Karattupalayam- Mayilrangam- Vellathankaraipudur sector. The cost includes the laying of approach roads to the bridge.
The bridge offers a riding surface of nine metres and has 1.5 metre space on both sides for pedestrians and cyclists. Its total length is 166.24 metres over 11 spans.
Highways department sources said that another high-level bridge being constructed at Karayur across the Nallathangal Odai, would be commissioned within a fortnight.
Collector C. Samayamoorthy, and Chief Engineer (Construction and Maintenance) of Highways Y. R. Balaji, among others, were present.
