High waves continued to lash the coastal areas of the district for the second day on Friday. Waves measuring 15 to 20 feet in height lashed the hamlets on the Western coast of the district causing sea erosion.

Coastal hamlets such as Colachel, Kottilpadu, Simon Colony Kodimunai, Vaniyakudi, Kurumpanai and Mondaicadu Puthur are facing heavy sea erosion.

The district administration has taken steps to shift people living in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, a portion of the Colachel harbour bridge collapsed due to high tidal waves.
