VELLORE: Minister for Law, Courts and Prisons Durai Murugan inaugurated the high mast lights constructed at a cost of Rs.3 lakh each under the MPs Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of the Arakkonam MP and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S. Jagathrakshakan in Kazhinjur and Tiruvalam town panchayats at a function got up at Ponnai Junction Road in Tiruvalam town panchayat on Friday.
Mr. Durai Murugan also inaugurated the fair price shops constructed at a cost of Rs.2.75 lakh each in Kazhinjur, Aruppumedu and Tirunagar in Kazhinjur town panchayat, the compound wall (Rs.3 lakh) in the Panchayat Union School and the Anganwadi centre (Rs.2.60 lakh) in Aruppumedu, and the road laid from Valluvar Street to Gandhinagar Road in Kazhinjur town panchayat (Rs.5 lakh).
The Minister inaugurated the women's self-help group (SHG) building constructed at a cost of Rs.12 lakh under the Constituency Development Fund of the Katpadi Assembly Constituency (which the Minister represents), the first floor building of the Tiruvalam Town Panchayat Office constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakh under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (Anna Resurgence Scheme) and the panchayat office building constructed at Melpadi panchayat at a cost of Rs.6 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Durai Murugan said that the State government would construct permanent buildings for women's SHGs in all village panchayats.
A community centre would be constructed in the Tiruvalam town panchayat to enable poor people to perform the marriage of their children. He requested Mr. Jagathrakshakan to arrange for the construction of the community centre under MPLADS in the Tiruvalam town panchayat. Mr. Jagathrakshakan promised to take steps to get a community centre constructed in the town panchayat. The law Minister inaugurated a high mast light constructed in Ponnai panchayat and distributed free colour televisions to 2,534 persons in Ponnai panchayat. Referring to the water scarcity in Ponnai on account of the lowering of the groundwater table in the Ponnai River, he promised steps through the District Collector to identify new water sources in Ponnai and solve the drinking water problem.
