: The DMK high command has issued show cause notices to 10 functionaries – all supporters of M.K.Alagiri – seeking explanation as to why action should not be taken against them for anti-party activities.
The Madurai city unit of the DMK had organised a public meeting to mark the birthday celebrations of the party’s deputy general secretary M.K. Stalin here on March 30, in which senior leader Durai Murugan and others addressed the gathering.
After the meeting, when the high command was informed about the absence of some of the key functionaries holding party positions, show cause notice was sent to them in the name of the party’s headquarters secretary. According to the party sources, former MLA Ghouse Batcha, former deputy mayor P.M. Mannan, a few councillors including Mubarak Manthri had come under the party’s scanner.
It may be recalled that last year supporters of Mr. Alagiri and Mr. Stalin exchanged blows when there was a demonstration in the city. In the melee, Isakki Muthu, a sympathiser of Mr. Alagiri suffered multiple injuries. The issue had shocked the party’s senior leaders, who summoned all concerned and served show-cause notices. After a patch-up was arrived at, the show-cause notices were withdrawn. The functionaries were instructed to cooperate with each other and bury their differences in the interest of party. However, after a lull, cracks had once again come out in the open.
