Handicrafts, terracotta materials, ornamental saplings are on display
PUDUKOTTAI: District Supply and Marketing Society, which forms women self-help groups, also takes special initiatives to market the products made by them.
Grabbing every opportunity, the Society has been organising various exhibitions intermittently as an additional facility to fetch attractive returns for SHG products.
A special exhibition was organised at the Mass Contact Day programme held recently in Azhiyanilai village near Aranthangi, providing a rare opportunity to a large number of women self-help groups to sell their products. The exhibits included a wide range of handicrafts, terracotta materials, ornamental saplings, herbal medicines and decorative products.
Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar, who went round the exhibition, was surprised to know about the women’s skills. She advised the members to go in for value-added products for getting more returns, especially for preparing the bouquets using the ornamental flowers.
Society secretary S. Sathyaseelan said that women members of seven SHGs had brought their products. Steps were being taken to impart special training to the SHG members of Kallukudiyiruppu village on making the bouquets in co-ordination with the Horticulture Department, Tiruchi. To market the SHG products, the Society would organise a special exhibition at the ‘Grievances Day’ meeting at the Collectorate on Mondays as a large number of people from different parts of the district gathered to submit their petitions.
