Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday arrested an Assessor of the Chennai Corporation on charges of taking bribe.

According to agency sources, S. Muthu, Site Engineer of a private construction firm in Velachery, lodged a complaint with the DVAC that R. Ranganathan, Assessor of the Chennai Corporation’s 13{+t}{+h}zone, had demanded Rs. 4,000 for issuing an assessment order to a newly built house at Adambakkam. The order was a pre-requisite for obtaining metro water and sewerage connections.

After registering a case, a special team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Jeevanandham laid a trap and arrested Ranganathan soon after he took the bribe from the complainant.

judicial custody

The accused was produced in a city court and remanded in judicial custody, the sources added.
