With heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashing various parts of the Nilgiris on Friday night, Kodanadu recorded 215 mm of rainfall for the 24-hour period ending 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.

During the same period Coonoor received 138 mm, Burliar- 85, Kotagiri -78.60, Geddhai -50, Ketti -45, Kundah Bridge -28, Kinnakorai -30 and Emerald -20. The heavy rains brought down trees and triggered minor landslips in a few places.

Traffic was disrupted for sometime, when gales uprooted a tree near KNR on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam National Highway. A boulder fell on the railway track below Coonoor. However train services were not disrupted. Official sources said that a house was partially damaged at Omnagar near Kotagiri and standing crops were affected at Nedugula. In view of the change in the weather the district machinery has been geared to meet any emergency.
