Gokhale makes an oral observation

CHENNAI: A three-member Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday will hear petitions relating to incidents on the High Court premises on February 19.

Chief Justice H.L. Gokhale made an oral observation when the matter came up before a Bench, comprising himself and Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla.

Earlier, the Bench, after passing interim orders, had adjourned the matter to March 26 for hearing by a Bench, comprising Justices S.J. Mukhopadhaya, V. Dhanapalan and K. Chandru. However, apparently considering the prevailing situation, the Bench listed the matter for Tuesday.

Submissions by parties directly before judges continued for the second day on Tuesday.

Advocates gave free legal aid to litigant public to enable them to defend their cases.

MHAA secretary, M. Velmurugan, said the demonstration by advocates in support of their demand for action against senior police officers responsible for the February 19 incidents would continue.
