Hearing in a defamation case against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant has been posted for January 22, by the District Principal Sessions Court here on Tuesday.
The case was filed by government pleader A. Kuppusamy against Mr. Vijayakant for his speech at a public meeting organised by the district unit of the party to distribute welfare measures to people in connection with his birthday celebrations in Thanjavur town on August 10.
Mr. Kuppusamy alleged that Mr. Vijayakant had made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister, government and government staff. The court which took up the case last month ordered that Mr. Vijayakant should appear before the court on December 11.
But his advocate Jagadish appeared before the court and said that Mr. Vijaykant could not come because of his pre-occupation. Mr. Kuppusamy objected to this.
Mr. Jagadish said cases had been registered against Mr. Vijayakant in various centres and he had to attend courts.
