Stress on importance of breast feeding, bathing, massage

TIRUCHI: The Rajiv Gandhi Trust and the Johnson and Johnson conducted a ‘Healthy Baby Show’ as part of the observance of the Rajiv Gandhi death anniversary. Over 150 babies participated in the contest held in three categories – below 1 year, between one and two years, between two and three years.

The prize winning babies were selected based on the priorities of weight, exclusive breast feeding for the first six months, proper complementary feed after six months, proper immunisation, etc.

A team of medical professionals – V. M. Gnanavelu, paediatrician, and secretary, Rajiv Gandhi Trust, R. Sirajueen Nazeer and K. Kuppusamy, both paediatricians of Government Medical College, and Prasanna, dental surgeon, acted as the judges and selected the healthy babies.

The highlight of the programme was the interaction session, when the paediatricians created awareness of the importance of breast feeding, bathing, massage and nappy care. Dr. Prasanna explained dental care of the young ones. The mothers utilised the occasion to clear all their doubts.

R. Nandakumar, Managing Director, Terramia Estates, Colocumbai, Coonoor, was the chief guest and gave away prizes to the winners. Senior Professional Marketing Executive of the Johnson and Johnson, S. Natarajan, Kottathur R. Ramaraju, former Chairman of the Tiruchi District Panchayat, V. Ragunathan, Director, Silpa Group and others offered felicitations.

Below one year: 1. M. S. Logesh, 2. R. Harhini, 3. S. Irshad Ahmed.

Between one and two years: 1. M. Karunya, 2. A. Kiruba and 3. P. Srija.

Between two and three years: 1. K. Vignesh, 2. P. Srinikesh and 3. T. Dharshan.
