In what is suspected to be an extreme decision borne out of alcoholism leading to demotion in career, John Britto (38) was found hanging dead at his residence in Puliakulam in the city.

According to police, John Britto was working as a headmaster in a school near Vijayamangalam in Tirupur and owing to alcoholism he was found to be irregular to work. This reportedly resulted in his demotion, leaving him in a depressed state of mind. His wife Rani (32) is working in a school at Chinnavedampatti. The couple have a son studying in fourth standard and a daughter in LKG.

On Wednesday around 2.30 p.m., the victim called up his wife and informed her that he was back at home. When the wife came along with the children, they found Britto hanging dead. A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Case against firm

The District Crime Branch Police have registered a case against the two promoters of a multi-level and online marketing firm on charges of defrauding the investors.

According to the police, Senthilkumar of Peelamedu and Vivek of Kerala floated the firm promising to pay a monthly return of Rs. 850 for investment of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 4,650 for an investment of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 8,500 for an investment of Rs. 1 lakh besides returning the capital after five years. But the firm failed to provide the return on investments.

According to the police, so far 1,336 complaints regarding cheating to a tune of Rs. 13 crore had been received.

Acid attack victim dies

Chandrakala (30), who suffered burns in an acid attack by her acquaintance Ravi on November 6, died at the hospital on Thursday.

It is learnt that Ravi and the victim had differences over living together, especially after he fell sick. In a bid to take revenge, he poured acid on her.

Youth killed

Karthik (20) of Madukkarai was crushed to death by the wheels of a truck on Palathurai Road on Wednesday.

It is learnt that Karthik, who was riding a motorcycle hit a car and fell on the road and was crushed by a lorry that was following the motorcycle.
