A Head Constable attached to Variety Hall Road Police Station here was placed under suspension on Tuesday on charges of committing fraud. Rathinasamy, 41, an Industrial Training institute (ITI) graduate from Dindigul, had received a letter in 2009 from the Employment Exchange asking him to apply for the post of a lineman at Tangedco.

He came to Coimbatore to meet his relative, Arulanandam, who was working as a vehicle driver at the City Police’s Crime Wing (West Division). Nataraj, 51, who was a Head Constable at the R.S. Puram Police Station approached them stating that he could help Rathinasamy get the job.

He allegedly demanded Rs. 1.50 lakh for bribing officials to help Rathinasamy get the job. Rathinasamy paid the money.

As he failed to get him the job, Rathinasamy asked Nataraj to return the money. He gave a cheque but it got dishonoured.

Rathinasamy submitted a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch, Coimbatore City, who conducted an inquiry. Based on its findings, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan placed the Head Constable under suspension.
