: The Madras High Court here has stayed the termination of service of a teacher by a school for not clearing Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).

R. Rathika, a teacher of Nadar Saraswathy Higher Secondary School in Theni said her appointment process commenced prior to August 23, 2010. Relying on a notification issued by the National Council for Teacher Education that exempted those who were appointed before August 23, 2010 from clearing TET, the petitioner claimed she is entitled to be exempted from appearing for the TET.

According to her, the school management issued the termination notice because she has not cleared TET to date.

Therefore, she moved the court seeking exemption from appearing for TET. She further sought directions to restrain the school from terminating her service.

Justice D. Hariparanthaman ordered an injunction on the school’s action and adjourned the case by two weeks.
