The Madras High Court bench here on Thursday directed the Virudhunagar police to file a counter affidavit on a petition filed by former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, seeking to transfer the investigation of a case against him to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID).

Justice R. Mala also ordered notice to a person named J.M. Gose who, according to Mr. Ramachandran, published an article in a Tamil weekly saying he planned to immolate himself. Mr. Gose had filed a complaint against Mr. Ramachandran with the Virudhunagar police alleging that he had paid Rs. 32 lakh to the former minister to allow him to contest in the 2011 Assembly elections.

In his petition, Mr. Ramachandran sought directions to the police to take action against Mr. Gose for trying to tarnish his image by foisting complaints against him.
