: The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed a city metropolitan magistrate not to proceed until further orders on a bail application filed by R.V.Varunkumar, an IPS officer, who surrendered before the court in connection with a case of alleged dowry and woman harassment against him.

Justice T.S.Sivagnanam passed the order on a petition by G. Priyadarshini of Valasarawakkam here, who preferred the complaint against Mr.Varunkumar.

He also granted an interim stay of an order of the XI Metropolitan Magistrate, Saidapet here on Tuesday dismissing a plea for police custody of the officer.

Mr.Justice Sivagnanam said that prima facie it appeared that the magistrate’s observation for production of cell phones was not correct.
