ERODE: Deepavali sale at the Department of Handlooms’ handloom exhibition has been good this year inspite of the inflation.
As many as 60 Erode district-based cooperative societies along with five from other districts have come together for the exhibition at Malligai Arangam.
The exhibition offered saris, dhotis, bed spreads, bed sheets, carpets, towels, and other home furnishings.
The saris include cotton and silk cotton. A society, from Madurai has displayed Sungudi saris. For men there are printed lungis.
The items carry the State Government’s Handloom Mark. A Department official in charge of the exhibition says the patronage has been good. ‘Around 500 customers drop in every day,’ he says.
In the last nine days the exhibition had a sale of Rs. 32.90 lakh.
Last year the Department organised the exhibition at the main market area. Then the sale was around Rs. 48 lakh.
The official says in the next few days they hope to reach the figure.
The exhibition, which offers 30 per cent discount, is on till October 25.
