CHENNAI: An accused gave a slip to the police while he was being taken to Kolkata by train from Chennai.

The police recently secured a gang from a place near Kolkata, which had committed grille offences in the city for several years. The gangsters were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Soon after, Commissioner of Police Letika Saran told reporters that as the gang had committed various offences across the city, the respective Deputy Commissioners would investigate the case.

The police had taken three persons into custody for interrogation. Based on a confession of the accused, the police decided to take them to Kolkata for recovery of some properties.

On March 24, when a team led by Teynampet Inspector John Arumairaj left by train, one accused, whose name was given as Abumanna, escaped under the cover of darkness.

A special team comprising Teynampet Assistant Commissioner of Police Kannabiran has rushed to Kolkata in search of the missing person.
