The Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, conducted a tree plantation campaign on its premises on Saturday to commemorate the birthday of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Captain Sandeep Chakravarti, the principal of the school, inaugurated the crusade, which was aimed at making the area green and clean, in the presence of Wing Commander P. Ravikumar, the school headmaster, and Squadron Leader B. Khan, the school registrar.

The saplings were donated by Siruthuli, Coimbatore.

A release from the school said a team comprising two cadets of the school, Taruneswar and Leander Antony won the second prize in the quiz contest conducted by Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, recently.

Captain Sandeep Chakravarti felicitated the students on the day.
