VELLORE: The Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs have sanctioned Rs.83 lakh to the Department of Zoology, C. Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam for carrying out research work on White Tail Disease (WTD) of fresh water prawn, an economically important aquatic organism.

It would be carried out by the college in collaboration with the University of Montpellier, France. A.S. Sahul Hameed, Reader in Zoology, C. Abdul Hakeem College would be the Principal Investigator from the Indian side, and Robert J. Bonami, Research Director, CNRS, University of Montpellier, the Principal Investigator from the French side. The project is expected to lead to the development of diagnostic methods for detection of WTD to benefit the prawn farmers and hatchery operators in both countries.
