More than a dozen granite blocks of the outer compound wall of Sri Devarajaswamy temple fell on Wednesday. No one was injured in the incident.

The wall on the southern side of the temple, constructed with lime and mortar and covered with granite blocks on both sides, had developed cracks in several places over the years and small plants had sprouted in those gaps, according to temple authorities.

As rain water seeped through these gaps and roots penetrated the lime and mortar mixture, the wall had become weakened.

This resulted in the displacement of granite blocks on the outer side of the wall, they added.
