A number of festivities organised at many top-notch star-category hotels

MADURAI: Grand celebrations and late-night partying heralded in the New Year as the Temple city partied long and hard on Thursday night.

A number of festivities were organised at many top-notch star-category hotels in the city with the celebrations being organised in a grand manner.

Ushering in a different genre of celebrations in its maiden New Year celebrations, Milen ‘em Mall at K.K. Nagar held special programmes for senior citizens. Apart from the usual fun activities and group games, it also dished out a delicious cuisine that included Gujarati and Chettinad food delicacies.

While the ‘five star’ category urban luxury resort Heritance Madurai at Kalavasal roped in the Madurai-born international DJ Ricky to perform video DJing in its New Year celebrations, Hotel Sangam at Alagarkoil Road made family guests the focus at its jungle-theme based party.

The New Year revelry at the Tamukkam Grounds rocked the Temple City as songs, mimicry and other forms of variety providing the perfect entertainment.

Organised as a part of the 13th edition of the annual Chamber Trade Fair by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the three-and-a-half hour entertainment show went well past the stroke of midnight.

Apart from the legendary M.S. Rajeswari, who lent her voice to a four-year-old Kamal Hasan singing the immortal verses of ‘Ammavum Neeye’ from ‘Kalathur Kannamma, Tamil comedian Alva Vasu and ‘Malacheri’ music troupe from Coimbatore. The show was anchored by television actress Vidhya.
