Old-age pension to be given to those found eligible
The district administration will sanction old age pension to all eligible beneficiaries in the district in a phased manner, District Collector V.K. Shanmugam has said.
Participating in the Grama Sabha meeting held in Perodu village panchayat in view of the Republic Day on Thursday, the Collector said the administration would consider all the eligible, aged persons included in the list of below poverty line for old age pension.
The list should be approved by the Grama Sabha members. The process of sanctioning would be carried out in a phased manner, and efforts would be made to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries received the pension.
Mr. Shanmugam asked the Village Administration Officers and Revenue Inspectors to interact with the people frequently and take steps to redress their grievances quickly.
Attend Grama Sabhas
The District Collector also appealed to the people in the rural areas to attend the Grama Sabha meetings to learn about various government welfare programmes and the progress of development works being carried out.
The District Collector asked the authorities to take steps to sort out the grievances related to drinking water supply provisions.
The Erode district administration would take necessary steps to ensure adequate supply of water to the Perodu village.
If the funds available in the panchayat were inadequate to carry out development works, officials should approach the district administration to get funds and implement the works, he said.
Assistant Director (Panchayats) Ruban Shankar Raj, Gobichettipalayam Revenue Divisional officer K. Palanisamy and senior officials were present.
Similar Grama Sabha meetings were held in all the Village Panchayats in Erode district.
