As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Grama Sabha meetings were held in all the 228 village panchayats in the district on Thursday.

Collector M. Karunagaran participated in a Grama Sabha meeting held in Keeranatham village in Saravanampatti.

He said that implementation of schemes especially distribution of welfare assistance was getting top priority. 

Mr. Karunagaran said that distribution of identity cards for newly enrolled voters was in progress.

Water scheme

The second phase of the Athikadavu – Pilloor water scheme would be implemented soon and that would benefit the village, he added.

He said that all the eligible persons under the senior citizens scheme were given assistance and over 30,000 people were receiving assistance in the district.

Sixteen officer trainees of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) from Mussoorie also participated in the meeting.

Earlier, chairman Sugumar explained the development works being carried out in the village, functioning of the Public Distribution System and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to the participants.
