DHARMAPURI: Failure of the DMK Government in all fronts in the district such as drinking water scarcity, unemployment, migration of labourers to the neighbouring States and a host of other problems will favour the Pattali Makkal Katchi in Pennagaram by-elections, said Anbumani Ramadoss, former Union Health Minister, here on Friday.

He said that the people had lost faith in the DMK rule.

Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss was accompanying party candidate G.K.M. Tamilkumaran, who filed his nomination papers with the Returning Officer R. Maheshwari at the Dharmapuri Collectorate.

Mr. Ramadoss said that the Congress, DMK and the AIADMK ruled the State for the last 63 years, but there had been no change in the standard of life of the people in Pennagaram.

Though the Cauvery was running just 16 km away from Pennagaram, the people were denied of water. Due to severe drought, the people were finding it difficult to get employment or livelihood in the constituency.

Five lakh youth from Pennagaram had gone out of the district for employment, he said.

“The much talked about Hogenakkal Drinking Water Scheme is a non starter. The past and present governments are still talking about implementing the scheme, but nothing has been materialised,” Mr. Ramadoss said.

He added that the prices of essential food items were skyrocketing.

The increase in petroleum prices had added fuel to the price rise. There was no good educational institutions and industries in the district.

Mr. Ramadoss said that he met Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta and urged him to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.
