"Release 60 per cent of arrears"

MADURAI: Retired teachers of various schools staged a demonstration here on Tuesday under the auspices of Tamil Nadu Retired Teachers' Association (TNRTA) in support of their demands.

They urged the State Government to consider their demands urgently.

R. Singappan, zonal convenor, TNRTA, said that the pension benefits of teachers, who retired between April 1,2003 and May 31,2006, were yet to be restored.

He said that the Government should release the 60 per cent of arrears to retired teachers as per the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

The teachers wanted the Government to pay Rs.10,000 under the Special Provident Fund Scheme to those retiring from Government-aided private schools.

R. Singarajan, State vice-president, and K. A. Devarajan, former president of Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers Federation, were among those who addressed the members.

Retired teachers from Dindigul district also took part in the demonstration.
