The strike call given by the Tamil Nadu Government Employees' Association affected the work in many sections here on Thursday.

The employees have placed their 15-point charter of demands before the government.

They include filling up vacancies, rectification of anomalies in pay scales and promotion, among others.

According to union representatives, over 1,000 association members stayed away from work in as many as 13 panchayat union and block levels in the district which had stalled several on-going works.

The agitating members threatened to intensify their stir in the ensuing week if there was no positive response from the government.
