As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Madurai substation, over the years had been undertaking various welfare measures aimed at improving the quality of life in villages in its vicinity.

According to its Chief Manager S.B.K. Moorthi, it renovated Government Kallar Primary School building at Chikkampatti at a cost of Rs.1.2 lakh in 2008-09, constructed boundary wall with gate at Government Kallar Middle School at Kinnimangalam at a cost of Rs.1.95 lakh in 2009-10, and conducted a free eye screening camp with Aravind Eye Hospital at a cost of Rs.34, 000 at Government Kallar Higher Secondary School, Chekkanoorani, on September 12, 2010 .

A boundary wall and gate was built at Government ITI, Chekkanoorani, at an expenditure of Rs.7.48 lakh in 2010-11. Adult Education Programme was held for 31 people at a cost of Rs.30,254.

During 2011-12, the Corporation donated 10 personal computers with tables and chairs to Goverrnment Kallar Higher Secondary School, Chekkanoorani, at an expenditure of Rs.3.79 lakh on Children's day The computers were handed over by M.K.Sasikumar, Human Resources Manager, (in charge), to the school. S.Vairamani, Headmaster, thanked the Power Grid Corporation for meeting the shortage of computers which were needed for Plus Two students.
