Founder of the Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi T.Velmurugan, former MLA, has sought the intervention of the State government in finding an amicable settlement to the wage issue of cooperative sugarmill employees.

In a statement released here, Mr. Velmurugan said the employees were on strike for the past 13 days, demanding wage parity with the government employees. Seventeen cooperative sugarmills in the State used to crush 50,000 tonnes of cane every day and produce 5,000 tones of sugar.

These mills also generated 15 MW of power. Since the functioning of the mills had come to a grinding halt, it caused great loss to sugarmills and farmers.
