Vellore Collector P. Sankar presented the government grant of Rs. 50,000 each to eight Adi Dravida lawyers on behalf of the Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare to enable them to set up their legal business, at the weekly public grievances redressal day camp at the Collectorate here on Monday.

Mr. Sankar also distributed on the occasion relief assistance to the tune of Rs. 1,26,250 to six victims of violence under the Victim Assistance Fund.

He distributed new family cards to 10 beneficiaries, and prizes and certificates to the students who obtained the first three places in Urdu in the X and Plus Two public examinations held in 2012. Besides, he distributed callipers worth Rs. 4,200 each to two differently-abled beneficiaries on behalf of the Department of Differently-Abled Welfare, and cheques for Rs. 1000 each to 19 leprosy-affected persons.

The Collector received 490 petitions from the public, which were related to land pattas, patta transfers, free house site pattas, loans, employment, financial assistance for the differently-abled, old age pension, police protection and power connections.

Amir Pasha, District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer; Subramani, District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Officer; Charles Prabhakaran, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer; and Jayasheela, District Supply Officer participated in the meeting.
