: Like the Mano College students of the district, students of Institute of Road and Transport Polytechnic of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation on the outskirts of Palayamkottai are also waiting agonizingly for the free laptops.

Around 550 students are studying in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses, all being offered by the IRT Polytechnic on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil National Highway.

While distribution of free laptops in other colleges has already started, the IRT Polytechnic students are still waiting for the freebie.

“Even as we the students of a government institution are waiting for the free laptops, students of a polytechnic on the outskirts of Tirunelveli, which is being administered by a cement factory, have received the freebie that is very much essential for our studies. When we enquired about this partiality, our college administration informed us that they had sent the list of beneficiaries to the officials concerned. However, nobody is prepared to give us a concrete reply till now on the possible distribution of laptops to us,” said a few students, who submitted a petition to Collector R. Selvaraj in this connection.

Since the third year students have started writing their final year examinations, their association with the college might come to an end shortly and hence getting the free laptop would be in trouble.

Immediate steps sought

Hence, the officials should take immediate steps to distribute the freebie to the students, they demanded.

Pressing the similar demand, the third year Bachelor of Business Administration students of TDMNS College, South Valliyoor, submitted a petition to the Collector on Monday.
