There is a good potential for technical textiles in the country, according to Shashi Singh, executive director, Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA).

Speaking at the inauguration of the ICIC 2014 Indo-Czech International Conference here, she said technical textiles had a market worth around Rs. 14 billion.

Per capita use

The per capita use of technical textiles was 16.5 kg in the US and 12 kg in Europe. In India, it was a mere 1.7 kg, she said.

ITTA worked closely with the Central government to make it mandatory the use of air bags in cars, geotextiles and agrotextiles as it would push up the demand for technical textiles.
